So many songs have taken on a new meaning to me since I lost my daughter. Here are a few.
The Sound of White, Missy Higgins
‘Like a freeze-dried rose,
you will never be what you were to me in memory.
If things get real for me down here,
promise to take me to before you went away – if only for a day.”
Here Comes the Sun, The Beatles
I played this at my daughter’s funeral.
This song will either make me cry or
give me courage that things will be brighter soon.
"Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right"
Bursting Through, Bic Runga
“Now my fingers are cold
But I have touched you
You're all I need to know
Don't fade from me now
I know you're listening somehow”
“Look outside the sun is bursting through, bursting through
Oh, it's filling up this room
Warm me today, warm me today”
Transatlanticism, Death Cab for Cutie
“And the distance is quite simply much to far for me to row,
it seems farther than ever before.
I need you so much closer.”
